The 2023 MET Gala Undeniably Reveals What We’ve All Known All Along

I asked ChatGPT, “Why is fashion important? Remind me what the argument was in the movie and the book, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’?”

“According to The Guardian, the movie is one of the few films that really does make an attempt to proclaim fashion as a valuable and creative art form. The movie challenges the stereotypes and prejudices that fashion is superficial, frivolous, or exclusive, by showing the complexity and diversity of the industry.”

“The book has a similar argument, but it is more critical and cynical about the fashion world, portraying it as a ruthless and corrupt place where people are exploited and manipulated.”

In this video, a certain Karl is celebrated, as worshipped by the MET, and credit claimed by Vogue, for his “iconic” looks throughout the years. Yeah, right, fashionistas should be the ultimate “authority” on what global fashion trends they have established, themselves deciding everything in retrospect.

I can claim the same accomplishments by selectively reviewing all that I have written throughout my years and pretending that none of those that have failed, were wrong, or perhaps the pinnacle of naïveté; ever existed! I’m a genius! Not.

Anna here sounds like a King George III type monarch, desperately clasping at any semblance of relevance in our post-Covid, pre-Climate change world. Did this Karl discover vaccines that changed the face of medicine? She certainly makes it sound like it.

When 100 years from now, archaeologists, after digging up the rubble of plastic blanketing our planet; ironically wearing unfashionable hazmat suits designed by doctors, scientists, and engineers; unearth the three copies of the violin dress by Chloe (1983) worn by Olivia Wilde, Zendaya, and Billie Eilish during this year’s Met Gala; would they stop and ponder the repercussions of these three separate but convergent fashion decisions?

Perhaps the decline in print circulation and advertising revenue among fashion magazines can paint a more accurate picture of how relevant this industry has become.

Among fashion magazines, Vogue had the highest circulation with 1.1 million , followed by Cosmopolitan with 1 million , Harper’s Bazaar with 0.7 million , and Elle with 0.6 million.

However, these numbers are much lower than their peak levels in previous years. For example, Vogue’s circulation was 1.3 million in 2015, Cosmopolitan’s was 3 million in 2012, Harper’s Bazaar’s was 0.8 million in 2015, and Elle’s was 1.1 million in 2012.

InStyle ended its print run in March 2022 after being acquired by Dotdash Meredith, while Marie Claire reduced its print frequency from seven issues to two issues a year after being sold to Future plc.

‘Nuff said.
